Eastlake starts season with wins
Eastlake, ranked No. 1 in the state, started its season off in grand fashion, beating Mercer Island 3-1 on Saturday and Juanita 4-0 on Tuesday.
Emma Levy, Kristin Dorr and Ann Heine scored goals for the Wolves on Saturday.
MacKenzie Garrett had two goals Tuesday night, while Kelly Morro and Allie Beahan each added goals. All Eastlake’s scores came in the second half. Eastlake’s Shelby Nilsen recorded her first shutout of the season. Eastlake hosts Skyline at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Skyline opens season with win
Skyline opened its season with a victory Tuesday night, downing non-league Mercer Island 2-1 on the road.
The Spartans struck early when Emily Anderson booted in a goal off an assist from Alisha Connors. The Islanders tied the contest in the 33rd minute on a goal from Lauren Frank. Skyline sealed the victory in the 74th minute when Madi Barney punched in a goal off the foot of Kiara Williams. Skyline goalkeepers Jill Stika and Tina Vargas combined for seven saves.
Issaquah win streak ends
An impressive streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, when the Issaquah soccer team fell 1-0 to 3A Lakeside in the season-opener.
The Eagles’ last defeat occurred Nov. 19, 2005 when they fell 2-0 to Camas in the 3A state championship game. Since then, Issaquah has won 38 contests and tied three, en route to two state championships.
Lakeside, which is ranked No. 3 in 3A, ended Issaquah’s streak via a goal from Sara Scott in the 80th minute.
Issaquah, ranked No. 4 in 4A, bounced back nicely Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over Bellevue — the No. 6 team in 3A.
Cara Hubbard put the Eagles on the board four minutes in on an assist from Lindsay Stoll. Kristen Maris tacked on another goal in the 30th minute on an assist from Dayna Talley. Issaquah faced another non-league ranked opponent on Wednesday night in No. 9 Seattle Prep. Issaquah faces Tualatin, Ore., at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Eastlake.
Volleyball
Issaquah falls to No. 2 Kentwood
Issaquah struggled in its season-opener Tuesday night, falling 3-0 to Kentwood.
The Conquerors, ranked No. 57 in the nation by Prepvolleyball.com, claimed three straight games 25-17, 25-13 and 25-9.
Jessie Genger and Lauren Campbell led Kentwood with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Stephanie Jones had eight kills for Issaquah.
Eastside Catholic blanks Interlake
Eastside Catholic cruised to victory Monday night, beating Interlake 3-0 on the road. The Crusaders were led by Ellie Radich who had 12 kills and four aces. Brooke Bachesta also had 12 kills, while Kelsey Miller had 16 assists. Emilee Derus added 12 assists.
Skyline falls on the road
Skyline struggled in its first match of the season Tuesday night, falling 3-1 at Mercer Island.
The Islanders won 25-14, 25-11, 22-25, 25-13.
Emily Hutchings led Skyline with seven kills, followed by Alex Petroff with five.
Shayda Sanii had a game-high 12 for Mercer Island.
