Brent Kawaguchi has worked as an athletic director for 13 years — eight at Eastlake and five at Mt. Rainier High School.

In that time, he’s never witnessed what he saw in the Eastlake performance theater Wednesday afternoon.

Eleven Eastlake athletes took the stage, all signing National Letters of Intent to play collegiate sports at various universities around the country. Two more were unable to attend, for a grand total of 13 signees.

“In my career as an athletic director, this is the largest (group),” Kawguchi said.

In fact, it’s quite possibly the largest in the state this year.

“I haven’t done a poll, but I can’t say there’s many more like this,” Kawguchi said. “There’s probably higher profile ones, but overall as many student athletes, I don’t know?”

Topping that list were six players from the girls soccer team.

Emily Hurd, who sat out her senior season to focus on club soccer, officially signed with Penn State University. Midfielder Allie Beahan and forward Lindsay Elston both signed to play with the University of Washington. Defender Courtney Pixler signed to play at the University of Alabama. Defender Kellie Shreve signed with Gonzaga University and forward Candice Osei-Agyemang committed to the University of Pennsylvania.

Head coach Chuck Krieble was on hand to honor his players as they took the stage.

“It’s been a distinct privilege to be associated with everyone of these ladies,” he said.

Eastlake’s football team had four players sign — three of them were on hand.

Running back Cam Hunt committed to Illinois State, while tight end Austin Reifeis inked with the University of Montana. Defensive end Michael Maguire University signed with Division II Minnesota-Duluth, and safety Trent Butler, who was unable to attend Wednesday’s ceremony, committed to Montana Tech.

Bradley McIntosh, who hasn’t played high-school soccer since his freshman year, signed with UCLA, and Renato Bandeira committed to play at Seattle University.

University of Idaho basketball recruit Alyssa Charlston also participated in the ceremony, even though she signed in November.

Issaquah High School had seven athletes sign letters of intent Wednesday. Lineman Daniel Fleischman signed to play football for the University of Wyoming, running back/safety Grant Gellatly gave his commitment to Cornell University and quarterback Ryan Bergman will play at Western Oregon University.

Forward Kristin Maris signed to play soccer at Western Washington University, while defender Abby Glasgow signed with Cal State Chico. Boys soccer players, Quinn Grisham and Michael Axelson committed to the University of Washington and Whitman College, respectively. Volleyball player Chrissy Dickinson committed to Stevens College in New Jersey. Softball pitcher Mikenzie Voves made her commitment to Ivy League power, the University of Pennsylvania.

Skyline High School had four athletes sign Wednesday — all from the football team. Defensive end/linebacker Cooper Pelluer changed his mind early in the week, signing with the University of Washington. He originally signed with the University of Hawaii. Linemen Jase Butorac and Evan Day both signed with Eastern Washington University and linebacker Anthony DeMatteo signed with Central Washington University.
