The Kiwanis Club of Issaquah presented a $1,000 check to The Issaquah Flatland Community Garden on Wednesday, June 10.

The funds will be used for tools, fencing and/or a shed.

The garden will provide very low cost plots for Issaquanians to grow their own organic vegetables; as well as plots designated for food production for the food bank, known as Community Impact Plots.

The impact plots will be maintained by volunteers and clients from AtWork!.

“Each gift we receive does more than cover direct costs,” AtWork! CEO Chris Brandt said. “It helps to create community, a community of gardeners who value the camaraderie of working together tilling the earth and growing living things that nurture and sustain. We are particularly pleased that the committee has agreed to set aside a few plots for general cultivation of food that will be donated to the food bank to feed those in need. And most especially the opportunity for people with disabilities to learn new skills working in the garden and to socialize and interact with other members of the garden community.”
