Hallowell claims district title for Eastside Catholic

Eastside Catholic took seventh in the Sea-King 3A championships at Mercer Island Saturday. The Crusaders earned 57 points. Mercer Island won the meet with a record 421 points.

Eastside advanced three individuals and two relays on to the state meet. All-American sophomore Ethan Hallowell won the 50 free in 21.64 seconds and took second in the 100 free in 47.03 seconds. He was also on the 200 medley relay team that took third in 1:42.46. The group included Spencer Moritz, Tommy McCann and Joe Mahan. The 200 free relay also qualified. That group includes Matt Leist, Hallowell, McCann and Moritz.

The 4A/3A swimming and diving championships take place Feb. 19-21 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.

Eastlake finishes fifth in district

The Eastlake swim team nabbed fifth at the Sea-King District 4A championships on Saturday, and will send two individuals and one relay to this weekend’s 4A state championships in Federal Way.

The Wolves earned 113.5 points during Saturday’s meet at Juanita pool, finishing behind Garfield (268.5), Inglemoor (260), Newport (183) and Redmond (157).

Zach Alleva swam to a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 2.15 seconds. Will Baker took third overall in the 100 butterfly in 56.77 seconds.

The 200 medley relay of Jay Bennett, Shawn Dhanani, Henry O’Niel, Steven King took third overall in 1:45.54.

Issaquah swims to sixth place

Issaquah took sixth at the district meet with 94 points.

No athletes placed in the top three at the meet, but three are moving on to the state meet. Jack Taylor will compete in the 100 backstroke, Skyler Kersten will compete in the 500 freestyle and Brandon Pomeroy will participate in diving.

Skyline takes eighth overall

Skyline finished in eighth place at the district meet with 72 team points. Alex Palumbo finished third in the 500 free in a time of 4:54.01, and is the sole individual competitor representing Skyline at the state meet. The 200 medley relay of Mitch Corson, Alex Marber, David Jett and Mitch Kim will also participate at state.
