A pair of Skyline and Issaquah doubles teams have lived to play another day.
Skyline’s Meg and Millie Reinhardsen advanced through the KingCo 3A tournament Monday afternoon, finishing in third place with a come-from-behind victory over Claire Wolf and Nicole Regan of Sammamish. The Reinhardsen twins fell behind, losing the first set 6-7 (1), but battled back to take the next two 6-4, 6-3. The Spartan duo worked their way to the semifinals with two straight two-set victories before losing a semifinal matchup to eventual league champions Chelsea Bailey and Michele Zemplenvi of Mercer Island.
Issaquah’s Ariel Hagen and Selena Lustig also captured a Sea-King berth, beating teammates Mika Asaba and Alyssa Wilson, 6-2, 7-5 for the fifth and final district slot. Hagen and Lustig won three straight matches after falling to the Reinhardsen twins in the second round.
Skyline’s Kristin Klein narrowly missed a singles berth, finishing in sixth place with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Bellevue’s Sara Ebrahimi. Klein started off with a dominating two-set victory before losing in the second round. She battled back to win two straight to get to the fifth-place match. Issaquah’s Florie Kim was eliminated in two matches and Skyline’s Sarah Dulin was eliminated in three.
Skyline finished its league season in fourth place with a 5-3 record, while Issaquah was fifth at 4-4. Mercer Island won the KingCo 3A title with an 8-0 record.
The Sea-King District tournament runs May 13-14 at Woodland Park in Seattle.
