From the Kids, Pets ‘n Pride Parade to a pie-eating contest, Issaquah’s Down Home Fourth of July celebration and Heritage Festival will offer something for everyone 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 4 in historic downtown Issaquah.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Rainier Avenue and Northwest Dogwood Street. An afternoon of free activities will follow, including games, a rummage sale and the Heritage Festival, where you can even try old-fashioned butter making.

Now entering its ninth year, the event is hosted by the city, the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, and the Issaquah History Museums, and aims to let residents and visitors – especially children – get their hands on local history.

Heritage Day activities will take place in and around the Issaquah Depot, at 50 Rainier Boulevard N, next to the “Field of Fun.” The event will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

The Issaquah History Museums are also seeking volunteers to help with these activities. Contact the museums for more information at 425-392-3500, or info@issaquahhistory.org.

In Sammamish, a highlight of the Fourth of July celebrations is the fireworks display on the Sammamish Commons.

The open spaces of Sammamish’s new community gathering place will be busy with family activities from 5 – 11 p.m. on Sunday. The fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m.

New this year, a number of nearby organizations will charge $5 for parking to raise money for vital community and charitable projects.

At Mary Queen of Peace Church next to City Hall, every $5 will support local Boy Scout activities, including summer camp.

At Skyline High School, the parking fee will go to the Skyline PTSA to support students and staff.

And at Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, by paying $5 to park residents will be supporting the church’s Youth Mission Trip to Guatemala, to contribute to relief efforts following the tropical storm and volcano eruption in May.

Parking is free at all other locations.

Art families looking to make a colorful splash should visit the Sammamish Farmers Market booth to help paint a Market Mural. Museo Art Academy is designing a mural that the community can be a participate in. They will be located next to the childrens area in the lower commons.
