The Issaquah History Museums will hold a history hike beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Depot. The hike will explore the city’s mining history that continues to shape downtown Issaquah.
The history group is reconvening its mine history walks after a four-year hiatus. The mine walks are being restarted in memory of long-time volunteer Steve Grate, who created and guided the mine history program for six years.
The first in a series of mine history walks, “The Residue of History: Olde Town Mine History Walk” will showcase the mine areas located on the edge of downtown Issaquah. Future mine walks will be added for areas along Grand Ridge and Cougar Mountain.
“Olde Town” is a loop walk that will cover the recently re-done area near the Issaquah Creek dam and Mine Hill areas before returning to the Depot. Participants meet at the Issaquah Depot Museum and check in. The walk begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. Walks are held rain or shine. Hikers should bring water, snacks, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Dogs should be left at home.
Advance registration is required. General tickets are $5 and $3 for history members. More information is available by contacting the Issaquah History Museums at 425-392-3500 or info@issaquahhistory.org.
