About a dozen residents attended the first of three public meetings to help shape the future of Sammamish Landing Park last week. Most seemed excited about the potential, although a few who live near the site said they’re worried about safety.

“We’re just floored by the opportunity that this site provides the city,” said Guy Michaelson, a landscape architect with the Berger Partnership who has been hired by the city to help create a master plan for the park.

Consultants already have surveyed the site — which is downhill from Eastlake Sammamish Parkway just south of the Sammamish city limits. Much of the land slopes steeply away from the road. Further study of the history and culture of the area, the wetlands on the site and traffic is underway.

Residents shared ideas ranging from playground equipment for young children to a dock to launch kayaks and canoes to safety ideas such as cameras. They said they liked ideas presented by Michaelson including meandering paths, some inclusion of historical elements and a strong connection with nature.
