Who would have known that a year ago when a delegation from Issaquah visited our Sister City, Chefchaouen, Morocco that our partnership would have grown to what it is today? We recently hosted a visit by a delegation from Chefchaouen. The mayor and his wife, plus Council members who consisted of a doctor, teacher and a lawyer rounded out the delegation.

What a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate to our guests the support of our citizens and the entire community of our joint goal of promoting peace and understanding while bridging our cultural differences and highlighting what we have in common.

There were two significant events that demonstrate our joint commitment to our special partnership. The first was the Webcam link between a French class at Liberty High School and a similar class in Chefchaouen. By linking students a half a world apart, we are indeed promoting peace and understanding among our youth.

The second highlight was the dedication of a significant gift from the people of Chefchaouen that symbolizes just how much our friendship has grown. The blue door will be a constant reminder of our friends in Checfchaouen to all who pass by.

I predict that our partnership will continue to grow and flourish.
