Native American violinist and storyteller Swil Kanim will perform in Sammamish on Sept. 26, sharing Tree Story and the gift of the tree and its life.

Kanim also will talk about the power of music and the feelings he can create with his violin.

Kanim, a member of the Lummi Tribe, is a classically trained violinist, native storyteller and actor. As a young boy, he was separated from his parents and spent the remainder of his childhood in foster homes. One of his teachers encouraged him to enroll in a music program, and the violin became his music instrument of choice.

He travels extensively throughout the United States, performing his original composition, music and native storytelling.

Kanim will perform at 7 p.m. at Beaver Lake Lodge, 25201 SE 24th St., Sammamish. His performance is sponsored by the Sammamish Arts Commission.
