Sammamish City Council appoints members to various commissions

Candidates for the city’s arts, planning, and parks and recreation commissions submitted applications by the end of 2015. The council conducted interviews during the first of the year, selecting members at theJan. 12 study session at Sammamish City Hall.

Last month, the Sammamish City Council named several community members to various open positions on city commissions.

The council elected three members and two alternates to the Sammamish Arts Commission:

  • Ramu Iyer, Position No. 7, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Steve Wright, Position No. 8, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Jennifer Kaczmarek, Position No. 9, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Carol Weak, alternate, term expires Jan. 31, 2017
  • Angela Bovo, alternate, term expires Jan. 31, 2017

The Arts Commission is an advisory board to the City Council regarding the promotion and facilitation of public art in the community. There are currently nine members on the board; two additional positions will open up in 2017.

The council elected three members and one alternate to the Sammamish Parks Commission:

  • Sheila Sappington, Position No.7, term expires Jan. 31, 2019
  • Nancy Way, Position No. 8, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Hank Klein, Position No. 9, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Glenn Bowers, alternate, term expires Jan. 31, 2017

The Parks Commission is an advisory board to the City Council regarding parks and recreation services for citizens. It has nine members; four positions will open up in 2017.

The council elected three members to the Sammamish Planning Commission:

  • Eric Brooks, Position No. 1, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Brian Garvey, Position No. 2, term expires Jan. 31, 2020
  • Nancy Anderson, Position No. 7, term expires Jan. 31, 2018

The seven-member Planning Commission recommends planning policies to the City Council, as well asoffers advice on development regulations. One position will open up in 2017.
