The city of Sammamish rejected the $640,000 bid from Zemek Construction Company LLC to make improvements to Big Rock Park. This was the only bid submitted for the project.
This bid is significantly higher, by more than $250,000, than the previous estimate, according to city documents. The Sammamish City Council gave the city the go-ahead to deny the bid when it passed an agenda bill during its Tuesday regular meeting.
In order to meet budgetary constraints and to reopen the process for lower bids, the city first has to reject the Zemek base bid, Sammamish Parks and Recreation Project Manager Kellye Hilde said.
It will cost the city a few hundred dollars to advertise and bid the project a second time, according to city documents.
