The opening of Lucky Home Feb. 28 will bring Gilman Village to 100 percent occupancy for the first time in over 20 years.
Lucky Home is the second retail store in the village owned by Denise Jensen. Her other store, Lucky You, has been open two and one-half “fabulous” years, she said.
“We’ve been very supported by the community, but we wanted more,” Jensen said. “Gilman Village has been phenomenal.”
Lucky You has hundreds, if not thousands, of gift ideas. With Lucky Home, Jensen has entered the furniture and home accessory market.
Her main line of furniture is by Bramble, which uses only fine plantation mahogany and other certified woods, many with antique effects that are hand-applied to the furniture. Jensen thinks she may be the only retailer in the greater Seattle area carrying Bramble.
Pillows, lamps, occasional tables and rugs are plentiful. Colorful jute and cotton rugs by Dash and Albert are showcased as are more durable wool rugs.
Jensen also has bedding, including quilts made from cotton or linen ranging in price from $99 to $149. The towels she carries are Egyptian cotton, many of them sculpted for an elegant touch to the bathroom.
Fluffy chenille slippers, Mr. and Mrs. pillowcases for newlyweds, candles and kitchenware can also be found at Lucky Home. A kitchen island with drawers that can be accessed from either side with a functional work top is one of the larger pieces, in addition to repurposed windows for accent pieces and numerous mirrors, some quite large. For the spring season she is featuring garden items such as garden art and accents.
Jensen, an 18-year resident of Issaquah, was a buyer for a large department store right out of college. She worked as a sales rep for a clothing company for 10 years after that, before being persuaded to open her own store.
“I’ve kind of done everything in retail,” she said. “Now I’ve come full circle.”
The store opens at 10 a.m. – throughout the weekend customers can enter to win a $100 gift certificate. A free gift will be offered to anyone who purchases $75 or more worth of merchandise during the grand opening weekend.
Both Lucky You and Lucky Home are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“As a little retailer I’m so happy we’re doing so well. People can walk in here and get a fair price,” Jensen said.
Headboards, quilts, linens, fluffy towels and slippers are all available at Lucky Home.
