Sammamish Citizen Corps Council (SCCC), Eastside Fire and Rescue (EFR) and the City of Sammamish invite the community to learn more about being prepared for disasters.

Since 2004, and earlier through Partners in Preparedness, Sammamish volunteer educators, subject matter experts, and officials have offered residents the opportunity to participate in a variety of free, short workshops offered on consecutive, weekly evenings.

The final seminar of the series this year will be held on Oct. 1 at Pine Lake Covenant Church’s lower classroom building, (behind the church), and will run from 7-9:15 p.m.

Participants can select from two of these 45-minute preparedness workshop topics each Thursday evening:

• ‘How is Sammamish Ready?’

• EFR Fire Fighters and Officials provide information about our H1N1 readiness and explain the life-saving ‘Reverse 9-1-1’ program.

• Basic First Aid with representatives from the Seattle Red Cross.

• Sammamish Schools Disaster Readiness.

• Plateau Geology and Hazards.

• Pet and Animal Preparedness.

• Building Your Emergency Kit.

For those interested in completing the popular ‘Map Your Neighborhood’ course, which helps neighbors learn how to prepare in advance of a disaster and help each other after an event, Barb Clayton and Kent Kiernan, SCCC instructors, offer a free 2-hour ‘Map Your Neighborhood’ workshops each of the two, remaining seminar evenings.
