Issaquah grad on Gonzaga Pres. List

Micah Louise Howe, a sophomore at Gonzaga University last year, was named to the President’s List for spring semester 2008.

Howe was among 899 undergraduate students to earn the required 3.7 or higher GPA, a release stated.

Sammamish Rotary honors athletes

The Rotary Club of Sammamish recently honored its Skyline High School “Athletes of the Year” at a breakfast meeting. Recognized were Phil Tushar and Gabrielle Garrido, nominated by former SHS Athletic Director Jeff Chandler. Jeff McGowan, Assistant Principal who is in charge of all athletics at Skyline, remembered why Jeff nominated them, specifically:

Of Garrido, who played varsity volleyball, McGowan said, “There were girls that had more talent, but nobody worked harder than Gabby. Tremendous heart and work ethic.  Always gave 110 percent effort.”

She was varsity volleyball captain her senior year, and voted “best teammate” by her team and selected as second team all-KingCo. She plans to attend Bellevue Community College.

Tushar, who played varsity football, basketball and baseball, was named to first KingCo his senior year for football, McGowan said. “Excellent sportsmanship and tremendous work ethic.” He received many awards during senior year, including Coaches Award Varsity Football, Honoree Captain Varsity Football, 3A King County First Team Varsity Football.
