I am writing as a parent with two children currently working their way through the Issaquah School District — and as a resident of Issaquah.
Issaquah is undergoing rapid growth. We see it everywhere — construction, new neighbors, traffic, new businesses — and all of this growth brings new families to our city.
The Issaquah School District projects an additional 1,500-2,000 pupils over the next five years. They deserve high-quality teachers, schools and resources. This is why I strongly support this bond and the associated construction of two additional elementary schools, a new middle school and a new high school.
Combined with the additional expansion and refurbishment of existing facilities, it means that our children will be learning and thriving for many years to come.
Over the past seven years I have seen continued growth in enrollment at each of the schools my children attend. The school district and each school has responded by adding portable classrooms and hiring additional staff. School campuses are now full, and this continued growth is what the construction bond is designed to address.
My daughter will be moving with Issaquah Middle School to their new campus this fall, my son with Clark Elementary a year later. I hope that all Issaquah families can have these experiences of modern, impactful and efficient school spaces, rather than being crammed into portable classrooms or having to deal with the challenges of year-round school. I would ask that your readers and all Issaquah residents join me and thousands of others in supporting the Issaquah School District construction bond this spring.
