Skyline takes title

Skyline put an exclamation point on an outstanding KingCo season on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Newport in the championship match of the 4A KingCo tournament to take the conference title and top seed to the 4A state tourney.

The Spartans swept Issaquah in the opening round before surviving Bothell 3-2 in the semi-finals.

Sammamish rival Eastlake kept its season alive with a 3-1 win over those same Cougars in a loser-out match on Thursday.

The Wolves will host the third place finisher from Wesco, Lake Stevens, at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the third and final state tournament spot from District 1.

Eastside Catholic meets Prep with season on the line

Eastside Catholic and Seattle Prep see plenty of one another on the volleyball court, facing-off as Metro League rivals and twice playing for a state title.

But when the Crusaders and Panthers meet on November 3 in the Sea-King tournament, only one can advance and keep its season alive.

Eastside earned a bye in the opening round but was beaten 3-2 by Mount Si while Prep fell 3-1 to Lakeside.

When the two face off at 1 p.m. Saturday, the winner will have another shot at a state playoff berth while the loser will be sent home.
