On Wednesday, Sammamish Deputy Mayor Ramiro Valderrama-Aramayo, representatives from the Eastside Race and Leadership Coalition and members of the Sammamish community will stand in solidarity in response to a racist incident that took place recently at Rags to Riches, a minority-owned consignment store in Redmond.
“Sammamish residents and city officials will pledge their continuing resolve to end racism wherever it might appear,” according to a city press release.
The event will feature a traveling art piece, an archway adorned with small pieces of cloth carrying the written sentiments of residents in other communities.
Members of the Sammamish community will have a chance to add their written sentiments to the archway at the event March 30 at noon.
The archway is currently travelling through other cities on the Eastside and will be displayed at Renton City Hall through March 27.
Formed in 2014, the Eastside Race and Leadership Coalition’s purpose is to empower current and emerging leaders to eliminate racism and increase equity on the Eastside.
The Sammamish City Hall is located at 801 228th Ave. SE.
