Incumbent City of Sammamish Council member, Kathy Huckabay, announced last week that she will not be seeking a third term when elections are held in November.
In an email sent to media outlets late on Thursday night, Huckabay said she had mixed emotions about deciding to step away from public office in the city.
“Over 20 years ago, a few of us had a vision of a city on a hill. It has been a delight to see it take shape and grow into a wonderful community bustling with families, children and people who care deeply about its future,” she wrote.
“So like any proud mother who is filled with mixed emotions as they watch their child leave the nest and after much careful consideration, I have decided not to run for a third term on our Sammamish City Council. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of this community for the past ten years. But that said, I am confident that one of the people who care deeply and who are vying for the privilege of working hard to create the next phase in Sammamish’s young history will be more than up for the job.”
