For the most part, the city of Sammamish is on the right track.

So say the residents who were contacted for the newest survey conducted by Herbert Research during a random telephone survey in April this year.

Just under 79 percent of Sammmaish residents agreed that the city was on the right track. The survey pool was 393 people.

“I am extremely pleased with the results,” City Manager Ben Yazici said.

The survey sample consisted of 132 men and 261 women.

In more good news for the City Council, 74.2 percent agreed or strongly agreed that they were satisfied with the leadership of the city council and city administrators.

However, many said they felt that some changes could be made in the city, primarily regarding traffic congestion, roads and streets as well as slowing down the growth and bringing in more recreational opportunities.

A majority of people, 66.1 percent, said that the city was making improvements to the city roads, according to the survey.

Sammamish citizens were quite impressed with the parks and recreation services that are currently available — more than 90 percent said they thought the parks appearances were good or excellent.

Although 91.6 percent of citizens said they feel safe walking alone in their neighborhood after dark, many said they still feel that more money should be spent on police services.

The majority said they agree that Sammamish’s long range planning and the Town Center were on the right track, but were only in the 60th percentile.
