A Sammamish driver was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center after a three-car crash in Enumclaw Tuesday morning left one dead, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Around 5:40 a.m., a 26-year-old Enumclaw driver going northbound on State Route 169 attempted to pass a 52-year-old Buckley driver.

The Enumclaw driver, Nathan Menalia, lost control of his grey 1994 Mercury Sable and hit an oncoming Sammamish driver in a 2010 Ford Mustang. The vehicles came to rest blocking north- and southbound traffic. All three drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Menalia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 59-year-old Sammamish driver, Peggy Smith, suffered from “non-life threatening injuries,” Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Webb said Tuesday afternoon. The Buckley driver was unharmed.
