In regard to the article written on Dec. 2 titled “What to do with YMCA property? ‘Save Sammamish’ advocate has an idea,” the article discusses that some people think we should make a new recreational facility and others think we should make a small mixed-recreational area or do nothing with it.
I am a 13-year-old eighth-grader at Pine Lake Middle School and this is my opinion on this topic. I think we should build a new school on that land, because what better idea to help the community than building a school? With the development of all of these new houses, there will be more and more kids coming and not enough school space for the kids. An example of this is that a lot of teachers are teaching in portables, which means there aren’t enough classrooms for teachers to teach in, so they have to build extra space for them to teach in.
A solution to this problem is to build another school. All of these new kids from the new homes will go to this new school and we won’t have the problem of teachers teaching in a small cramped space and being away from the main school building. If we have a new school, kids will learn faster because there will be fewer kids per class, so more students will get individual attention.
Kids also get to know one another better in a smaller class, which can help them because they will make longer-lasting friendships, and if they have a question they won’t be afraid to ask someone they already know. Another reason is that there will be less distraction, because if the class is too big, then the class can get too loud, whereas in a smaller class it won’t get as loud. If the class is quieter, then the kids can work more efficiently. This is why you should build a school.
