Issaquah ended the boys soccer season in heartbreaking fashion, falling 1-0 to Gig Harbor on a penalty kick in the waning moments of overtime after the two played to a scoreless tie through regulation.
The Eagles, winners of the school’s first conference soccer title and making only the third trip to state in program history, had a number of scoring chances late in the second half before the Tides were awarded a penalty kick that wound up deciding things in overtime.
Skyline headed to quarters
Skyline advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over Puyallup, behind another shutout in goal from Jack O’Keefe.
Armeen Bardi got the Spartans on the board with a second half goal from Nate Hardwick, and Jason Twaddle added the insurance tally on a Sean Curtis assist four minutes later.
The win keeps the season alive for Skyline, the only remaining KingCo team in the field, and sends them to a 7 p.m. May 24 matchup with Snohomish at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium for a spot in the semifinals next week.
The Panthers beat Rogers 2-1 in the first round to earn their quarterfinal spot.
A win means a trip back to Sparks Stadium for a semifinal against either Gig Harbor or Kentwood.
