Issaquah Eagles tennis players Charlie Suh and Lucas Pastor reached the absolute pinnacle in the milieu of high school tennis as freshmen this school year.

As a doubles team, the duo cruised to a 2-0 (6-2, 6-0) against Kentwood’s duo of Alex Boupharath/Andrew Boupharath in the Class 4A doubles state championship match on May 26 at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club in Richland.

Issaquah head coach Patrick Nam said the Suh/Pastor duo led his team to a league title this past fall as well. The state tennis tournament takes place in the spring and regular season is in the fall.

“They were so happy they accomplished their main goal, which was to win the state tournament,” Nam said. “They were the favorites going into the tournament and they pretty much dominated the whole tournament. They won 6-2, 6-0 in the finals and it really wasn’t close.”

Suh and Pastor aren’t only Eagles freshman tennis players, they are also first cousins. Nam wasn’t shocked to see his No. 1 doubles team attain a state title.

“I was really lucky to step into this coaching position my first year at Issaquah and have these two guys as our top players. I got to watch them really take over the league. They really helped us get a league (KingCo) title for the first time in Issaquah history,” Nam said.
