An unresolved labor issue involving Republic Services garbage, recycle, and yard waste drivers in another part of the country spread today to Allied Waste facilities in Seattle, Lynnwood, and Kent/SeaTac. The company’s operations on the Eastside are not affected.

Republic Services is known as Allied Waste in this area.

Some of Allied Waste’s local union employees exercised their right not to cross an extended picket line, the company said in a statement, adding that the issue elsewhere in the country was not related to the local area.

“Republic Services is proud of the fact that we have never had an extended work stoppage or labor issue that impacted service in the Puget Sound area,” the company said. “We maintain positive relationships with our local unions and value our hard-working employees.”
