Despite the opposition of a more than half of the residents in the area, the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District Board of Commissioners voted recently to proceed with the construction of the Southeast 20th Street sanitary sewer extension from 212th to 228th Avenues Southeast and water main revisions project.
Construction work began July 19, and is expected to be completed by late October.
The public is encouraged to use alternate routes, such as Southeast 32nd and Southeast 4th/Southeast 8th, and to expect significant delays when driving through the work zone area.

The project was awarded to Ceccanti Incorporated General Construction, at a cost of just over $2 million, about $300,000 less than engineers estimates.
The project consists of the installation of approximately 5,500 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer main along Southeast 20th between 212th and 228th Avenues Southeast, 35 manholes, 6-inch side sewer stub-outs to each existing property, and temporary repaving on Southeast 20th Street.
In addition, approximately 750 feet of water main will be relocated along Southeast 20th in the vicinity of 220th Avenue Southeast and 218th Lane Southeast in advance of the City of Sammamish’s plan to lower the road to improve site distance.
