Along the wall on the west side of the Issaquah High School gymnasium, eight portrait photos were proudly displayed of the Issaquah Eagles volleyball team’s senior class in anticipation of its final home game.

Eagles’ seniors Liz Gorski, Hailey White, Leah Wilson, Avery Stevenson, Zoe Sevart, Char Emerson, Claire Hyun and Zoe Hennings made their presence felt in the final regular season home match. Issaquah cruised to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-13) victory against Woodinville on Oct. 17 at Issaquah High School. The Eagles improved their overall record to 11-1 with the victory.

Eagles senior outside hitter Liz Gorski, who had a team-high nine kills in the win, was jovial following the triumph in front of the hometown crowd.

“I think it was so unreal that in our last home game that we completely swept them (Woodinville) in three sets. We had so much fun and we had so much energy tonight,” Gorski said.

Issaquah head coach Amanda Sewell said one of her team’s best strengths is its massive amount of depth across the board at all positions on the court.

“Our seniors are a huge part of our lineup and a huge part of our team. The great thing about our team is that we have a very deep bench that has so much talent. Our eight seniors all play a tremendous role for our team,” Sewell said.

Gorski’s velocity on many of her points scored ignites the entire Eagles roster throughout the duration of a match.

“She is a huge energizer bunny for us. She has got a ton of energy. The girls feed off of her,” Sewell said of Gorski. “She is a well-seasoned athlete who understands the game and sees the court very well.”

With the playoffs looming on the horizon, the Eagles’ expectations are to reach the mountaintop.

“I think we are in a really good position. We have so many players who have been on this team for four years and really know the spirit and tradition of our team. Hopefully we do well at state (tournament). We want to win the whole thing,” Gorski said.

Sewell has the utmost confidence in her team’s abilities.

“Our ultimate goal is to get to state and be in that state championship match but we have to take things one step and one match a a time,” Sewell said. “We definitely have a strong team. We’ve got the whole package rolling.”
