Issaquah wins KingCo matchup against Newport

The Issaquah Eagles girls basketball team registered a 48-37 win against the Newport Knights in a battle of Class 4A KingCo teams on Jan. 3 at Newport High School in Bellevue. Issaquah (4-5) will face the Skyline Spartans in a rivalry contest at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 in Issaquah.

WF West earns dominating win against Eastlake

WF West, which was the host squad for the annual WF West Holiday tournament, defeated the Eastlake Wolves 75-44 on Dec. 30 in Chehalis. The Wolves (3-5) will host the Redmond Mustangs at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 in Sammamish.

Crusaders capture third place finish at Florida tourney

The Eastside Catholic Crusaders boys basketball team flexed their proverbial muscle with a 50-43 victory against Ensworth (Nashville) on Dec. 30 in the third place/fourth place game at the Gulfshore Holiday Hoopfest tournament in Naples, Fla. Ensworth has won four consecutive state championships in Tennessee. Eastside Catholic’s Matisse Thybulle scored game-high 23 points and Mandrell Worthy chipped in 19 points in the victory. The Crusaders (5-1 overall) will host West Seattle at 8 p.m. on Jan. 9 in Sammamish.

Wolves collect fourth place finish at San Diego tournament

The Eastlake Wolves boys hoopsters registered a 44-41 win against Scripps Ranch (San Diego) on Dec. 30 at the Surf ‘N Slam San Diego Hoop Classic, earning a fourth place finish at the tournament. Eastlake player Jordan Lester was named to the all tournament team. Eastlake (3-5 overall) will face the Inglemoor Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 in Kenmore.

Trinity Christian conquers Eastside Catholic

Trinity Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) defeated the Eastside Catholic Crusaders 35-21 in the inaugural Burger King Bowl Championship Series on Dec. 27 in Boca Raton, Fla. Eastside Catholic finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 13-2. Crusaders’ junior quarterback Harley Kirsch had two touchdown passes in the loss. Eastside Catholic receivers Hunter Bryant and Devon Arbis-Jackson each hauled in a touchdown pass from Kirsch in the contest.
