Poster slots are no longer full of colorful movie advertisements and the parking lot is empty. The Regal Cinebarre in Issaquah has permanently shut its doors, and workers could be seen packing up the building’s contents Jan. 28.
A notice on the front door of the movie theater said: “Unfortunately, our Cinebarre Issaquah location has closed permanently. We want to thank our guests for years of loyalty, and we will cherish all the fun memories we had together throughout our time here. Please visit us at the Issaquah Highlands Regal! If you wish to further enjoy the Cinebarre tradition, our Mountlake Terrace location continues the legacy! (21+ location) We will miss you all!”
Costco in December purchased the movie theatre property in Pickering Place for the future expansion of its headquarters, according to a news posting on the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce website. Emails to the Chamber did not immediately receive a response by the Reporter’s print deadline.
Upon the Reporter’s request, a Costco spokesperson said via email that management is declining to comment at this time.
In 2014, Costco and the city of Issaquah signed a development agreement that would allow Costco to add 1.5 million square feet of new office space in the area around its campus.
