Issaquah built a big hole early, but managed to dig out for a remarkable 4-3 victory over Yelm on Saturday.
The Tornadoes took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime after scoring in the 3rd, 12th and 24th minutes.
Issaquah completed its comeback in the 80th minute when Akash Ramachandran headed in a goal off a corner kick from Alex Shane.
Shane had tied the game 10 minutes earlier on an unassisted score.
Ryan Higgins started the comeback in the 44th minute with an unassisted score and Tyler Bask netted a goal in the 51st minute off an assist from Michael Roberts.
The Eagles improved to 6-1-3 overall with the victory. Issaquah returns to league action at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Redmond.
BASEBALL
Issaquah wins third straight
Issaquah won its third game in three days Saturday, hanging on 7-5 over non-league Mount Rainier.
The Eagles erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to snag a 7-3 league.
Ben Rosellini, Brandon Mahovlich and Ethan Kalin all had RBI singles in the crucial fifth-inning rally.
Jake Bakamus had Issaquah’s only multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Relief pitcher Scott Boydston earned the victory while Cole Westover came in with the bases loaded to get the final two outs and the save.
Issaquah improved to 5-8 overall with the victory. The Eagles return to league action today at 3:45 p.m. against Ballard at IHS.
Eastlake drops seventh straight
Ballard’s Danny Thomson held Eastlake to just three hits Saturday afternoon as the Beavers downed the Wolves 7-0 in Sammamish.
Thomson also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, while Brendan Foor went 2-for-4 and three RBI.
Eastlake, which has lost seven straight after winning its first three, is now 0-5 in league and 3-7 overall.
The Wolves are scheduled to host Roosevelt at 4 p.m., today.
BOYS LACROSSE
Eastside Catholic downs Central Catholic
Michael Rambaldini scored a season-high six goals and Drew Beggs grabbed 11 ground balls Saturday to lead Eastside Catholic to a 19–5 win over Central Catholic High School in Portland, Ore.
The Crusaders struck early, jumping out to a 4–1 lead in the first quarter before expanding their margin to 8–2 at halftime.
Kyle Decker added two goals and three assists and Colin Schriever had five saves in goal for the Crusaders.
Eastside Catholic (7-2-0) next faces Lynnwood (0-5-0), at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Meadowdale High School.
Eastlake rolls over Three Rivers
Zach Shute, Josiah Fonte and Brian Quick all netted three goals Saturday to advance Eastlake past Three Rivers 14–4 in Sammamish.
Eastlake opened scoring with four in the first and five in the second to take a healthy 9–2 lead into the intermission.
Eastlake (4-4-1) next faces Vashon, at 7 p.m., Thursday in Sammamish.
Issaquah lacrosse swept in New Jersey
Matt O’Neill scored two goals and goaltender O’Neil Hughes managed 10 saves on Saturday, but Issaquah was unable to sustain a 3–1 halftime lead, falling to The Peddie School 6–4 in Highstown, N.J.
In the fourth, playing with a man advantage, Peddie took its first lead and converted another shot just minutes later to seal the win.
The loss was the third of a spring break road swing through New Jersey for the Eagles. On Wednesday, Issaquah fell 10–9 to Rutgers Prep in overtime and dropped a 10–3 decision to Lawrenceville.
Skyline tripped up by Jesuit
Skyline fell to Jesuit 17–9 on Saturday in Portland, Ore., despite a five-goal effort from Cannon Gardner.
Jesuit jumped out to an early 6–1 lead in the first. Skyline countered with four goals of its own and narrow the gap to 10–6 at halftime.
Skyline’s Jack Pruitt and Max Saffle each added two goals and Cory Larson was busy in the nets with 20 saves.
Skyline (6-4-0) next faces Mukilteo (1-4-0), Tuesday, April 12 at Kamiak High School.
