ISD scored the final goal in the last minute of the game to get the victory

The Issaquah School District girls lacrosse team is state champions, after a last minute goal from Skyline High School senior Katie Bucy gave them an 11-10 win over Lake Sammamish May 16 at Islander Stadium.

In a back-and-forth affair that saw six ties, it was ISD that left with the state title trophy, led by five goals from Suzy Emerson and two each from Nicole Victory and Meg Corscadden.

Bucy’s only tally of the night came in the biggest moment, providing the game-winner on a free position shot just after another goal was disallowed on a shooting space violation from Lake Sammamish.

“That’s the biggest goal ever,” Bucy told U.S. Lacrosse Washington.  “It was hit or miss and this one was a hit.”

Lake Sammamish, which includes four players from Eastlake High School, tied the game at 10 apiece before Bucy’s decisive strike in the waning seconds.

“Our seniors fought so hard for this one,” Lake Sammamish coach Tony D’Alessio said. “You knew it was going to come down to whoever had the ball last.”

Sarah Wyrick and Alex Johnson each scored three goals to pace Lake Sammamish in the loss.
