Eastside Catholic School senior, Ellie Sampson, has been selected for the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP). NHRP recognizes Hispanic and Latino high school students for academic achievements and exceptional performance on the PSAT/NMQST.

“We are so excited to learn that Ellie has earned this phenomenal honor,” said Principal Ryan Aiello. “She is a superlative student and an even more impressive person, and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient or exemplar of EC’s values.”

To receive a NHRP achievement, students must be at least one quarter Hispanic American or Latino and receive a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They must also take the PSAT during their junior year and achieve the minimum required PSAT Selection Index score.

According to Eastside Catholic School, Sampson was in the top 2.5% of all Hispanic and Latino juniors who took the standardized test last year, and her achievement will be highlighted to over 1,500 colleges across the country.

Annually, NHRP recognizes about 7,000 out of 250,000 Hispanic and Latino students who take the PSAT. Students living in the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Mariana Islands, Marshall Islands, or citizens studying overseas have the opportunity to be recognized by the program.

Going forward, Sampson wishes to pursue a degree in either mechanical or industrial engineering at the University of Michigan, Purdue University, UCLA, or Stanford.

Some advice Sampson has for underclassman is to “work hard to find a good balance between schoolwork, athletics, and relationships.”
