Sunset Elementary School announced that school would be cancelled on May 16 and May 17 due to COVID-19 related staffing challenges.
“As many of you are likely aware, we have had rising COVID-19 cases, and a number of clusters in our classes,” said Principal LeAnn Tuupo. “Even with our wonderful substitute teachers and substitute classified staff members, we do not anticipate having enough staff to hold school on Monday and Tuesday at our building.”
Tuupo is hopeful that the situation will improve enough to hold in person learning on May 18. When returning to school, health officials have recommended masking for all students and staff to assist with curbing the spread of COVID-19.
The principal will be in touch with families and staff prior to May 18 with additional information.
According to the Issaquah School District COVID-19 dashboard, two staff members and six students have confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past seven days.
