An Issaquah man, who pleaded guilty to robbing a Kirkland Subway employee at gunpoint in July, was recently sentenced to nearly 6.5 years in prison.

Judge Julia Garratt sentenced Ryan Arthur Mashek, 30, at King County Superior Court on Friday, Dec. 13.

Mashek initially pleaded not guilty to first-degree robbery but changed his plea in October.

Mashek robbed a Totem Lake Subway located at 11613 124th Ave. N.E. on July 7. He pointed a gun at an employee, demanded money and fled to the AM/PM across the street before getting into a car driven by two young men, according to court documents.

Just before he fled, a witness saw the encounter and followed the suspects in his vehicle. He obtained the car’s license plate number and notified police that Mashek and two other suspects were at Fred Meyer.

Kirkland police converged on the vehicle and performed a high risk vehicle stop and arrested Mashek and two 21-year-old men.

The men told police Mashek was in possession of a loaded air-soft pistol during the time of the robbery. Police later found the weapon under the front seat of the getaway vehicle.

Mashek was convicted of three counts of second-degree robbery in 2008, including one case wherein he threatened a victim with a gun.

He posted $250,000 bail in October.
