While crews plant outside landscaping around the long-planned Sammamish Community and Aquatic Center, the inside is nearly ready for its grand opening, slated for the end of April.

A few weeks ago, crews filled the community center’s pools and brought in new exercise equipment.

The community center also features two gyms, several fitness rooms, a children’s play area, a community kitchen, an exercise room and a track.

Crews are still working on the outside landscaping, planting various native shrubs such as vine maples, Oregon grape, serviceberry and evergreen huckleberry and planting native trees such as western hemlocks and bigleaf maples.

In the center of the parking garage, crews planted white alders, which will eventually grow to provide a “screen” between the garage and the Sammamish Library.
