Don LeBrock Dauphiny | Obituary

April 3, 1934 – January 18, 2024

With great sorrow and love we announce the passing of Don LeBrock Dauphiny, 89, on January 18, 2024 in Issaquah, Washington. Don was born on April 3, 1934 in Bellingham, Washington, and spent his early years there before moving to Issaquah in 1965. He had a huge heart and loved his family dearly.

Don was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, partner, friend, and neighbor. He worked for the Pacific Northwest Bell/USWest for 48 years, first as a lineman in Bellingham and eventually as an engineer in Seattle. His work led him to assist on interesting projects like the construction of the Space Needle and the boring of the I-90 tunnels.

He enjoyed working on cars, keeping up the yard, and spoiling his five grandchildren. He was well-known in his neighborhood as a friendly face (having lived there for more than 50 years) and would chat with everyone who passed by. His driveway always had a car from someone who needed a repair. The care for his cars and trucks was impeccable and a joy. He used to drive his children around in the back of his ‘41 Ford, watching and listening as they would bounce around laughing with friends.

His love for others was strong and most likely the greatest gift he shared with his family. He cared for and provided for them until his last day. He visited his mom every Saturday, no matter how tired he was from a long week at work, driving the 100 miles to Bellingham to work in her yard, take care of her car, and spend time with her. They were best friends. He talked to his two sisters every week. Although the baby in the family, he was looked up to by all. His children remember him fondly for his ability to make hot dogs, root beer floats, and smoked salmon. He is also famous for the big boxes that would arrive around the holidays full of thoughtful gifts. His grandchildren will cherish memories of the green shag carpet, the piano in the basement, running around the yard, and helping Grandpa Don sweep in the garage.

Preceded in death by his parents, John E. Dauphiny and Leatha F. Dauphiny (Hulford), and sisters Marleen Bales and Dolores Weatherby, Don is survived by his two children, Lori (Ed Hewitt) and John (Heather), five grandchildren Connor, Simon, Annabel, Christopher, and Hannah, and his partner of more than 30 years, Christie. We will love him, miss him, and keep him in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held in Issaquah on Saturday, June 8 at 2 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 745 Front Street South in Issaquah, WA 98027. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Don to the ASPCA (https://www.aspca.org/) or Easterseals (https://www.easterseals.com).
