The Friday event included a petting zoo, various snow machines, booths, treats and a couple of toy collections — like the Sammamish Police Department’s Toys for Tots collection ongoing through Dec. 10. Eastside Fire & Rescue’s Rudolph engine, complete with Santa’s sleigh on top, was parked in the Sammamish Commons Plaza.

The Sammamish Commons Plaza, sparkling with holiday lights, easily saw about 2,500 pass through for the city’s holiday festival Friday from 5:30-8 p.m.

The Very Merry Sammamish event included a petting zoo, various snow machines, booths, treats and a couple of toy collections — like the Sammamish Police Department’s Toys for Tots collection ongoing through Dec. 10. Eastside Fire & Rescue’s Rudolph engine, complete with Santa’s sleigh on top, was parked in the Sammamish Commons Plaza and offered passers-by a chance to sit in the front seat.

Inside Sammamish City Hall, children had the opportunity to whisper their desires in Saint Nick’s ear or snag a hug from princesses Elsa and Anna from Disney’s Frozen.

Sammamish Mayor Tom Vance said a few words before lighting the Christmas tree and menorah inside city hall.

The Eastlake High School Carolers, Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary choir and Rachel Carson Elementary School choir performed holiday classics throughout the evening in the council chambers. Community members and parents alike packed into the room to hear.
