After narrowly making it in to the 4A state tournament, the Eastlake soccer team continues to make noise.
The Wolves advanced through the quarterfinals, knocking off Mead, 3-2 on Saturday in Spokane. Eastlake faces Bellarmine Prep at 5 p.m., today in the state semifinals at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.
The Wolves jumped out to a fast start, getting two goals from Tyler Klein in the first 11 minutes. Both scores came via corner kicks off the foot of Michael Short. Short knocked a goal of his own in with just over six minutes left in the first half, and Eastlake’s defense fended off Mead in the second half.
The Wolves punched their ticket to state after losing two winner-to-state games against league rivals Juanita and Bothell. They traveled to Vancouver, May 10, and beat Evergreen in a winner-to-state, loser-out game. They then traveled to Pasco, May 13, and knocked off the defending 4A state champions 2-1.
The winner of tonight’s Bellarmine-Eastlake game will play the winner of Todd Beamer-Puyallup for the state championship at 7 p.m., tomorrow at Lakewood’s Harry Lang Stadium.
