Theatre program invites autistic kids, mentors for social skills workshop

The "Theatre of Possibility" uses theatrical protest techniques to help kids on the autism spectrum.

Sammamish and Issaquah teens on the autism spectrum, along with normally developing teen mentors, are invited to take part in “Theatre of Possibility,” Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Bellewood Apartments, 3710 Providence Point Drive S.E., in Issaquah.

Designed to help autistic teens rehearse social skills through acting and improv, “Theater of Possibility” was established in 2010 by Lauren Goldman Marshall, who has been a Seattle-area playwright and director for more than 20 years. “Theater of Possibility” uses techniques adapted from Brazilian activist Augusto Boal’s “Theater of the Oppressed,” used worldwide for social activism, community building, therapy, and education.

“Theater of Possibility” is presented by the city of Sammamish, the Sammamish Arts Commission and 4Culture.

Registration is free and all inclusive. To register, email agubata@sammamish.us. For more information, contact Lin Garretson at specialartssammamish@comcast.net.
