The city of Sammamish purchased two replacement synthetic turf field sweepers for $16,690.

The city of Sammamish purchased two replacement synthetic turf field sweepers for $16,690.

The current sweepers, purchased in 2006, are at the end of their life, where repairs would cost more than purchasing new ones. The sweepers will be used at Eastlake High School and Skyline High School.

The city partnered with the Lake Washington and Issaquah School Districts in 2005 and 2006, respectively, to build turf fields at the two high schools. Per the agreement with the school districts, the city must manage and conduct routine maintenance on the fields.

Sweepers clean and groom sports fields. They also decompact the turf, which is necessary to ensure the ongoing safety of the fields. The sweepers will be stored on-site at the high schools.

Various vehicles, like compact tractors or quads, can pull the sweepers.

The money for this purchase comes from the city’s 2015 Parks Resource budget for machinery and equipment, which is $22,000.

The city received three bids, published in mid-March, for the sweepers. It awarded the project to Sports Install LLC, the lowest bidder.
