A Sammamish student was chosen to join some of the nation’s best and brightest for a three-day conference of the nation’s future leaders in medicine.

Jenny Yang, a junior at Skyline High School, has been selected to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, beginning Nov. 14 in Washington, D.C.

The congress, presented by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists (NAFPMS), is a free three-day event serving high school students who aim for a career in medicine or medical research. While there, Yang and other attendees will sit in on talks from Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science winners, receive advice from Ivy League educators and the deans of the nation’s top medical schools, as well as get first-hand experience with the cutting edge of medical technology and knowledge.

Yang was nominated by the NAFPMS medical director, Dr. Connie Mariano. Yang was selected for her academic achievement, leadership potential, and her “determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine,” according to Mariano.

“This is a crucial time in America when we need more doctors and medical scientists who are even better prepared for a future that is changing exponentially,” NAFPMS Executive Director Richard Rossi said. “Focused, bright and determined students like Jenny Yang are our future, and she deserves all the mentoring and guidance we can give her.”
