This week’s editorial cartoon by Frank Shiers looks at the court battle faced by Initiative 1366, introduced to the ballot by Tim Eyman.
Initiative 1366 would lower the state sales tax to 5.5 percent unless the state legislature voted to approve a constitutional amendment before April 15. Voters would then be able to vote on the amendment one year later.
On Thursday, the Associated Press reported the state Supreme Court gave the opinion that the legality of I-1366 was unclear, as opponents had not made a clear case it was unconstitutional. However, the court noted the opponents had a right to challenge the initiative and it will be able to be challenged in a lower court.
