Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps earned his second straight Associated Press Washington high school player of the year award on Dec. 23 in a unanimous vote by AP members.
The BYU-bound Heaps concluded his high school career with a 40-2 record and three consecutive state titles. He threw for more than 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns this season as the Spartans overcame regular season losses to Oaks Christian, Calif., and Bothell to beat Ferris in the Class 4A title game.
Heaps led Skyline to the Class 3A title in 2007 and the 4A title in ’08. He was the AP state player of the year as a junior and a first-team selection in Class 3A as a sophomore.
Heaps will round out his high school career on Jan. 9 when he participates in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The game will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. on NBC.
