Another week has passed, bringing one more dominating victory for the Skyline football team.
The Spartans defeated Garfield 35-2 on Friday, improving their record to 2-0 in league and 5-0 overall.
Skyline jumped out to a fast start, scoring three first-quarter touchdowns behind the legs of running back Joey Evans. The senior scored three first-quarter touchdowns, rushing nine times for 84 yards.
Quarterback Jake Heaps sat out the second half, but completed 7 of 10 pass attempts for 157 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Jake Knecht had four catches for 100 yards, including an 8-yard reception for a TD. Gino Simone scored on a 74-yard punt return to round out the scoring for the Spartans.
Anthony DeMatteo and Ryan Somers led Skyline’s defense in tackles with nine apiece.
The Spartans, who have outscored opponents 216-8 this season, allowed their first points scored against them in two games after fumbling a ball out of the end zone in the fourth quarter.
EC dominates Bainbridge
Eastside Catholic improved its record on its brand new field to 2-0, earning a 31-7 victory over Bainbridge Friday — the second home win in as many weeks.
The Crusaders jumped onto the scoreboard early via a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown from Marion Bactol. The senior had three punt returns for 111 yards. He also had 11 carries for 139 yards and another 57-yard score. Quarterback Zach Cuaresma and wide receiver Spencer Esau also scored on rushing TDs. The Crusaders improved to 2-0 in the Metro league and 4-1 overall with the victory.
Eastside Catholic at Blanchet
