For the fifth year in a row, Skyline has produced Washington’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year.

Gatorade announced Thursday that Browne, a junior quarterback for the Spartans, received the award.

Jake Heaps won the award in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008 and Kasen Williams won the award in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010.

Browne has helped Skyline to a 10-3 record and a berth in this Saturday’s class 4A state championship against Skyview.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound junior has completed 70 percent of his passes for 3,813 yards, 43 touchdowns and just five INTs.

A 2010 First Team All-State selection, he has thrown for more than 200 yards in 12 games in 2011.

Browne has maintained a 3.55 GPA in the classroom and has volunteered locally on behalf of multiple community service initiatives in association with his church youth group and as a football and basketball camp counselor and referee.

“Max Browne is incredibly poised and efficient, he makes great decisions and is a winner,” said Liberty football coach Steve Valach, in a release. “In two years, he has thrown about four incompletions against us. His fundamentals are impeccable and he makes the most of his ability.”

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport.

The selection process is administered by ESPNHS and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team, which work with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
