Issaquah man is the face of the Super Charged Seahawks Fan

Issaquah’s Michael Eng said it takes everyone to be the 12th man. In case you don’t know, that’s a reference to the loud and proud Seahawk’s fans. But Eng might be one of the most visible of the Seahawks super fans.

Issaquah’s Michael Eng said it takes everyone to be the 12th man. In case you don’t know, that’s a reference to the loud and proud Seahawk’s fans. But Eng might be one of the most visible of the Seahawks super fans. In fact, his game day regalia earned him the title of “Supercharged Seahawks Fan” as part of PEMCO Insurance company’s hilarious campaign, “Northwest Profiles,” where it declares “We’re a lot like you. A little different.”

Eng, who works at Costco corporate, has been a Seahawks season ticket holder for 13 years. After the first year, he decided to paint his face and dress up for game day.

“Every year since I started going I painted my face and colored my hair,” Eng said. “About three or four years ago I started to grow it out.”

He said his hair has always been spiky, and now, for games, he fashions it into a 2-foot-tall mohawk in vibrant blue and green. When he’s not at a game, he pulls his hair back in a ponytail. His daughters, Remy and Alexis, are his “can shakers,” for his hair color. Eng said when he comes home from a game, after he showers, the girls spot check him for any green or blue he may have missed.

Before the start of the 2013 season, in part with the Seahawks, PEMCO had a contest called “The Best of the Nest,” looking for that one special fan who epitomized the spirit of the 12th man. Eng said PEMCO whittled it down to 30 contestants, then 15 candidates were submitted to the team which selected him. He found out he won at the last game of the regular 2013 season.

In addition to becoming the profile winner, he won $5,000, which he used to go to the Super Bowl, which of course, the Seahawks won. His season tickets are in pairs, he said, and sometimes his wife or one of the kids go with him. He’s never lonely at a game because his group has grown to about 30 people, who all sit in close proximity, but he’s the only one who dresses/paints up.

Eng will soon be immortalized on Metro buses, sealing his role as the “Supercharged Seahawks Fan.”
