Issaquah’s strong start to the season continued Tuesday morning at the Les Schwab BCC Christmas Classic with a 57-45 victory over the No. 1-ranked team in 3A, Holy Names.

The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the latest Reporter Newspaper poll, erupted for 23 points in the second quarter, taking a 31-20 lead to the locker room. Issaquah pushed the lead to 19 points, 45-26, by the end of the third quarter.

Senior Domi Mendezona led a group of four Eagles with double-figure points, scoring 14. Maddey Pflaumer added 12, Mackenzie Schiltz had 11 and Brooke Miller scored 10.

The Eagles face third-ranked White River at 3 p.m., today, at Bellevue College for the Les Schwab Christmas Classic championship.

Skyline nabs opening round win over Wenatchee

Skyline earned an opening-round victory in the Wenatchee Holiday Tournament Tuesday night, beating Wenatchee 52-46.

The Spartans were led by Kassia Fortier’s season-high 21 points. Morgan Farrar added eight for Skyline, which faces Mead at 3 p.m. today for the tournament championship.

Eastside Catholic edges Fife

Eastside Catholic slid past Fife, 56-54, Tuesday afternoon to take third place in the Burien Winter Holiday Classic.

The Crusaders jumped out to a fast start, taking a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. They led 28-21 at halftime, and despite being outscored over the final two quarters, were able to hang on.

Michaela O’Rourke led Eastside with 22 points. Sarah Hill had 12 and Shannon Graves had 10. The Crusaders improved to 5-4 overall. Interlake won the Burien tournament with a win over Highline.
