I enjoyed reading your recent question and answer piece about the upcoming City Council election. However, I felt compelled to write because I think one answer, the one from Candidate Nathan Perea, was flatly untrue.

Nathan seems to think that nobody in Issaquah knows any of our city councilors, and that the council is unavailable and unresponsive.

If Nathan had been to just about any community or civic function, he could not have missed seeing Fred Butler, because Fred puts an amazing amount of time in, and is at just about every event in town large or small.

If he hiked, biked or spent time helping out the library or did restoration projects along our creeks and trails, I don’t see how he could have missed seeing David Kappler.

Go to anything concerning schools, healthcare or to improve our local economy, and one can’t miss seeing Maureen McCarry.

If one goes to any of the meetings the chamber sponsors promoting local business or their big events like Salmon Days, there will be Eileen Barber.

Josha Schear, John Rittenhouse, and John Treager all have full time jobs, but if one does their shopping, goes to the farmers market or spends their weekends around town, you will often bump into them.

Of the current crop of contenders for council seats, Joan Probala has been a fixture at meetings and civic events for years, and Tola Marts is well known to parents as a tireless volunteer in our Issaquah schools.

However, the one person I have never seen or heard of before, is Nathan Perea.

I have seen all of these other folks actively doing things in our community for years, and have never had a problem getting to talk with them individually in person or have a concern addressed via email.

I don’t always agree with each of them, but I appreciate the time they all have spent working for our collective benefit.

I strongly feel Nathan Perea’s comments are unfounded and that we are lucky to have the hard working people we have representing us.
