The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the region for Aug. 16-17, as temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-90s.
Issaquah is supposed to top out today at 96 degrees, while Sammamish will be 2 degrees cooler. The kicker is that the lows are only going to be in the upper 60s, meaning there won’t be much cool off at night.
Both cities are expected to see highs of 94 Friday, and the lows in the mid-60s that night.
A cool off in the 80s is expected from Saturday, bringing even a chance of thunderstorms at night.
NWS issues heat warnings when combinations of high humidity and high temperatures over a prolonged period of time could cause illness for people and animals.
For those spending time in the heat, the service recommends rescheduling strenuous activities to the morning and being aware of heat exhaustion and heat stroke symptoms.
