A group of girls from Eastside Catholic didn't make it anywhere close to their destination of Eugene, Ore. for a scheduled lacrosse trip after a car accident in Sammamish.

Eastside Catholic lacrosse players escape traffic accident

A group of Eastside Catholic girls lacrosse players headed to Oregon for a weekend of competition made it only a few miles before having the trip derailed by a King County Metro bus.

The group of 10, which was driving in three separate SUVs, was headed to I-90 when a Metro bus struck two of the three cars in the intersection of Issaquah-Pine Lake Road and Issaquah-Fall city Road in Sammamish. Three girls were taken to the hospital and released and no one involved sustained serious injuries. The two passenger vehicles involved were totaled.

Eastlake senior headed to Drexel

Mark Matula, a senior defender for Eastlake and member of the program’s 2011 state title team, will continue his playing career and education at Drexel University.

Matula is also a member of the USSD Academy U18 Seattle Sounders FC program.
